15/02/2008, 3:11 PM PM Joined on 15/02/2008 Posts 1 Tesco in St Albans "... seven independent shops, " "As part of the plans, Tesco will refurbish 12 derelict houses in London Road" Would these be the shops & houses Tesco closed when they bought them, then left derelict?  The ones St Albans council has ordered the to refurbish and put into use again? How generous of Tesco! "270 jobs" ?  Last year Tesco claimed 170 jobs - with a larger store - so this seems unlikely.   By coincidence  276 is the average number of jobs LOST from the local economy when a supermarket opens up and kills existing businesses, according to the British Retail Planning Forum.    Report
