Saffron Walden Tourist Information Centre is relocating to the former council chamber in the town hall.

The change will help the Tourist Information Centre (TIC) continue its services, while the town council can gain income from leasing the current site at 1 Market Place - where the TIC has been located for more than 35 years.

Over the years the service has grown from providing advice to residents and visitors on the town's amenities and services, to a varied retail offering, an online shop and a box office for community venues.

A town council spokesperson said: "In 2008 the TIC service was transferred to the town council (from Uttlesford District Council) and since this time, the TIC service has become the 'go-to destination' for everything about Saffron Walden.

"The move to the town hall allows the service to continue to flourish, providing customers with much-needed step-free access."

The decision to move comes after a cost-efficiency review by the town council.

In the coming weeks 1 Market Place will be advertised to let, providing a retail opportunity for businesses.

Once a tenant is agreed a relocation date for the TIC will be announced, and in the meantime it will continue to operate from its current location.
