Students at Saffron Walden County High put their Harry Potter knowledge to the test last week, as the school celebrated the 20th anniversary of the best-selling books.

Adding a little magic to their day, pupils took part in a trivia quiz at the school’s Hartley Learning Centre on June 26, answering questions on everything Potter from nargles to Norwegian Ridgebacks.

Proving herself a fan, Amy Dunn took home an illustrated version of The Philosopher’s Stone, signed by artist Jim Kay.

Students also took part in a lunchtime potions class and tried their hand at making Ron’s love potion before a game of ‘pin the scar on Harry’ with Rafferty Ockwell-Smith taking first place.

Ashley Reid won a prize for his efforts in Potter bingo, and Ellie Wilson scooped first place for the Horcrux hunt.

Alex Smith, manager at the learning centre, said: “We had a magical time celebrating Harry Potter’s 20th anniversary. It is wonderful to see that the legacy continues to bring joy, wonder and a passion for books to all those who read it.”
