Beales in Saffron Walden is now closing down before Christmas

Beales in Saffron Walden will now shut its doors to customers before Christmas after bosses brought forward the closure date.

The shop, which announced its closure in August this year, was expected to stop trading from its Market Square location in January, but will now shut its doors on December 17.

It is believed around 30 staff will lose their jobs from the Saffron Walden store although Beales shops in St Neots and Bedford will remain open. Stuart Lyons, chairman of Beales, said: “We are very disappointed that we will have to close our Beales store in Saffron Walden just before Christmas.

“Unfortunately, despite all our efforts, it has not proved possible to trade profitably here. We would like to thank all our staff for their hard work and loyalty, and our customers for their support.”
