A 16-year-old member of Turpin’s Indoor Bowls Club in Saffron Walden has become the youngest ladies’ champion in Essex and selected to represent England at their international test series against Wales later this month.

During the summer competitions, Jazzii Wilson beat several more experienced bowlers from all over Essex.

In the finals, Jazzii maintained her excellent form to win 21-7 and become Essex’s youngest ever ladies’ champion.

Jazzii, a student at Newport’s Joyce Frankland Academy, has been a member of Saffron Walden’s indoor bowls club for three years.

She won her outdoor title at Thorpe-Le-Soken and qualified to represent Essex at the national championships at Leamington Spa together with other county winners from all over England.

Jazzii originally learned to play bowls with her father Shaun Wilson and grandfather Peter Searle. She and her father Shaun are regular players at the Saffron Walden indoor club and both have won several internal club competitions.

“I’ve always enjoyed bowls, it’s a fantastic game and the excellent Turpin’s facilities have helped me develop my own game over the last three years,” Jazzii said.

In recognition of her achievement, Jazzii learned this week that she has been selected to represent England under 18s at their forthcoming international test series against Wales later this month.

To give everyone a chance to try indoor bowls, Turpin’s are running two free open days on Sunday September 16 and Sunday September 23 from 10am to 2pm.

The club has a range of facilities for the community, including a lunchtime restaurant and bar, making it great for people to come along and meet others in a friendly and relaxed environment.

Mike Spraget from Turpin’s said: “The club is great for meeting new friends and we are very keen to be a focal point within the local community for all ages to enjoy.

“Bowls is a fun, friendly and sociable activity for all ages. It is easy to get started. The club will provide the bowls and get you playing straight away. So bring your family and friends and have a go for free.”
