The Cross Keys in Saffron Walden will be on TV screens this week after it was chosen for Channel 4 show, Four in a Bed.

A member of staff from the hotel took part in the reality show earlier this year, which involves four bed and breakfast owners taking turns to stay with one another and paying what they consider fair for their stay.

When the owners visit the other hotels, they inspect the room and pick up on anything untidy or out of place.

Afterwards, they take part in an entertainment activity. Guests are treated to dinner, before bed and breakfast in the morning.

The guests fill out an anonymous form about their stay, pay what they consider fair and the winner is the establishment named best value for money.

“They wrote to us and asked if we wanted to be a part of it,” said Fiona Gerard, owner of the Cross Keys. “Our member of staff went to Wales, Derbyshire and Somerset. For two weeks, from 8am to midnight, you are being followed by a camera constantly. They really did enjoy it.

“We’re being really crazy and doing it again with one of our other hotels.”

The episode featuring Cross Keys will be aired on Channel 4 at 5pm on Thursday (September 20) and the final will be on Friday (September 21) at 5pm.

“We will be showing the final live on TV at the Cross Keys if anyone would like to join us for tea and cake,” Fiona said.
