A former pub at the heart of an Uttlesford village was sold for more than £300,000 at auction earlier this month.

The former Elmdon Dial pub, in Elmdon, was snapped up for £325,000 at Clive Emson’s Essex regional sale in Chelmsford on February 5.

It was among 133 lots in the auction held by Britain’s largest independent regional land and property auctioneer.

Auctioneer Paul Bridgeman, chairman of the Essex division of the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA), said: “We have high hopes that the pub could eventually be reopened.

“The former Elmdon Dial should very much be at the heart of the community with flourishing sports teams and it would be marvellous to see such a proper pub come back to life.

“We understand the purchaser is a local man and we wait to find out his intentions for the building.

“It is a substantial building on a large site. It comprises two bars, a dining room, commercial kitchen and manager’s accommodation above.”

The pub, which closed in 2013 as the last of four inns that were once in the village, sits on a site of about half-an-acre.
