Legal proceedings have been started by Essex County Council to move travellers on from a car park in Saffron Walden.

The group arrived at Swan Meadow car park on Sunday and this morning (Wednesday) there were approximately six caravans in the area.

A spokesman for Uttlesford District Council said: “We are aware that there are travellers currently camped at Swan Meadow car park. The Essex Countywide Traveller Unit have been notified and are dealing with the situation.”

An Essex County Council Traveller Unit spokesman added: “We visited the site on Tuesday morning and as a result we started legal proceedings on behalf of Uttlesford Council.”

If there is no response to a direction to leave notice, a court summons usually follows.
