The fête, on Saturday, June 14 starting at 1.30pm, takes place on on the village green, where the Hadstock Silver Band will entertain during the afternoon, the churchyard and neighbouring gardens.

The annual festivities will include colourful stalls, swingboats, bouncy castle, face painting, tombolas, games and a car show. Visitors can try their hand at metal detecting, golf or egg throwing.

Teas and cakes will be sold in the Village Hall and the ever-popular auction will take place on the green at 3.30pm with lots which include a case of wine, festival tickets, prints by local artists, a day at the races. There will also be a chance to sample the exclusive Hadstock Fete Ale from the Mighty Oak Brewing Company.

The fête regularly attracts over 1,000 visitors and raises much-needed funds to support the maintenance of the Church of St Botolph and the village hall.

HISTORY OF THE EVENT

The fete has its origins in the horse fair which was established by Royal Charter in the time of Henry II. This was held annually at Fair Hill on St Botolph’s Day until the 19th Century when it was banned by the Rector!

In the 1960s the church was in desperate need of funds for repairs and the idea of reviving the fair in the form of a church fete was born. It has been held most years since and has now grown to be an event organised and supported by the whole village.
