The incident took place at about 8.25pm on Saturday, in Peal Road.

Barry Mandy Davies, whose car was damaged, said: “We cannot personally believe that incidents like this seem to be being overlooked and that people have the audacity to just drive off - it makes you wonder whether they are under the influence of either drink or drugs and with the impact that our neighbour’s car was hit, it would have obliterated a person big or little, or someone’s beloved pet.

“We are lucky enough to have a camera up and although you couldn’t see the impact you can see the force of our neighbour’s car knocking into ours and jerking that forward and we were close enough to get the number plate.”

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We were called to reports a car had been in collision with another vehicle in Peal Road, Saffron Walden at around 8.25pm on Saturday, July 28. The car failed to stop at the scene.

“If you have any information about the incident please call us on 101 quoting incident 1324 of 28/07 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
