Police are investigating whether an air weapon may have been used in a series of attacks on vehicles at Stansted Airport.

Three vehicles appear to have been targeted and their windows damaged, officers have said.

In one incident, which took place between 2.30pm on Friday, February 14 and 1pm on Sunday, February 23, the nearside rear window of a black Mini Cooper in the mid-stay car park of Thremhall Avenue was smashed, causing £400 worth of damage.

On Saturday, February 22 two buses, a National Express Citaro bus and a Mercedes Benz single decker bus, both had their windscreens targeted at 9.33am. The rear window of the National Express bus was damaged whilst the other vehicle had two indentations left in its front windscreen.

The cost of replacement windscreens for both buses is £1,200. Both of these vehicles were in the mid-stay car park.

PC John Jackson, who is investigating the damage, said: “At this time we have not found any projectiles after the damage has been caused but the fact that the two buses were attacked within seconds of each other, and there was no-one close by at the time, would suggest that an air weapon may have been used.

“Fortunately only property has been damaged but if the windows had broken on the buses there was the potential for people to have been injured by flying glass or the projectile itself. For that reason we are very keen to find the person responsible for this as soon as possible.

“We would ask for anyone who was in the mid-stay car park at the relevant times and saw any suspicious activity or who has any other information that could assist our enquiries to call me at Stansted Airport police station on 101 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

“We would also like to hear from any other motorists whose cars have been damaged in a similar way in the area
