The assailants reportedly called at a house in Manor Road, Stansted Mountfitchet, in the early hours of Sunday morning before forcing their way in. However, despite the helicopter assisting officers on the ground there was no trace of the suspects.

Police are continuing to investigate a report of aggravated burglary.

A spokesman said: “Officers were called to the address shortly before 2.45am after it was reported that four men had called at the house and then forced their way in.

“One occupant, a 25-year-old man, was hit on the head and needed hospital treatment for the injury. None of the other occupants in the house were injured.”

He added: “The men are reported to have been carrying several weapons which resembled firearms. They are believed to have stolen two mobile phones before leaving the address and getting into a car which drove off at speed.

“Police carried out a full area search, with the assistance of the police helicopter, but no trace of the suspects was found.”

Investigations are continuing and anyone with information about the incident has been asked to call Essex Police on 101 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
