Estate agent’s pub quiz raises hundreds for teen with rare and incurable disease

A pub quiz in Great Dunmow, hosted by estate agents Beresfords raised £300 for Maddi’s Appeal.

The fund is raisng money for teenager Maddi Thurgood who has a rare, at present incurable, degenerative neuro disease called SPG15.

Maddi’s family are funding medical research at the University of Sheffield, where scientists are trying to find a gene therapy that might help not only Maddi but other children around the world.

For the quiz, at the Saracens Head, the town’s businesses, Tiptree Tea Rooms, Scarlett & Stone and Smith & Co as well as the Saracens Head and Beresfords gave prizes.

Dunmow Branch Manager, Steve Gabbani, said: “Pub quizzes really bring all ages together. Although we were more than pipped to the post, we’ll certainly be working on improving in the next one”.

The Maddi Foundation is a non-profit charity,s founded by the family of a Maddi Thurgood who was diagnosed in 2016 aged 15.
