Shortgrove Estate lies to the east of Newport and Wendens Ambo and includes a nine-bedroom house, more than 700 acres of land and, a well-established private shoot which takes advantage of the rolling landscape and farm buildings.

It was originally put up for sale by estate agent Savills in September 2017 with a guide price of £7.5 million.

Adrian Wilson, head of Savills’ farm agency team in Cambridge, said: “We then chose to re-launch the house in June this year, without two additional cottages included in the sale price, and therefore the estate now has a guide price of £7,090,000 to reflect this.

“Since the re-launch we have received a significant amount of interest in the property and are advising all expressions of interest are with us by noon on July 27.”

In 1794, the then owner of the Shortgrove Estate commissioned Capability Brown to undertake work to the gardens, which were subsequently sold, and to the parkland which included the planting of native trees, the creation of ponds and the widening of the River Cam.

Shortgrove Hall and its gardens were sold off from the rest of the estate in 1963 to property dealer Geoffrey Allen, reputedly a friend of East End gangsters Ronnie and Reggie Kray.

“The Shortgrove Estate represents a rare and exciting opportunity to acquire an historic residential and farming estate in an enviable position given its proximity to London and Cambridge,” Mr Wilson said.
