Sixth Form students vote on the EU

FRIENDS’ School Sixth Form were asked to consider Britain’s position regarding the European Union during a thought provoking debate.

Civitas (the Institute for the Study of Civil Society) provided speakers, Andrew Smith, who spoke for the motion, ‘Britain would be better off outside the EU’ and Stephen Robinson who spoke against it.

After lively, persuasive speeches, questions were invited and then the vote taken, which resulted in a marginal win for pro European, Mr Robinson.

One student commented, “I was encouraged to listen carefully to the arguments and as a consequence, I changed my view on Britain’s membership of the EU. The arguments from both sides really made me think!”

This event is one of a number of enrichment activities provided by Friends’ to students in the Sixth Form.
