Stansted Airport received nearly 200,000 more passengers last month compared with June 2013, with more than 1.85million people passing through its terminal.

The increase of 11.7 per cent represents the highest rate of montly growth seen at the airport for eight years, despite the loss of 88 flights towards the end of the month which were cancelled due to strike action by air traffic controllers.

The rolling annual total of passengers using the aiport to the end of June rose to 18.48m, an increase of 4.25 over the previous 12 months.

Andrew Harrison, Stansted’s managing director, said: “The continuing growth of passenger numbers at Stansted clearly demonstrates just how far the airport has come since being acquired by MAG last year.

“To experience our highest monthly rate of growth since 2006 is a fantastic achievement and sends a loud and positive message that Stansted is changing for the better.”
