Sworders said its autumn country house sale in Stansted Mountfitchet broke records in terms of bidding activity and interest levels on lots for sale, raising a total of £585,000.

The combined amount brought in by three auctions in the saleroom this week including its autumn country house, antique and coin sale, totalled £800,000.

Managing director Guy Schooling said they were “thrilled” at the reaction, and it showed that regardless of the economy, buyers would turn out when the lots were right.

“This sale just kept on giving from start to finish. Before the auction we were inundated with people wanting to view items, we sold out of the sale catalogue and the phones didn’t stop ringing,” he said.
