Ten people and two dogs rescued from flooded flats in Saffron Walden

Ten people and two dogs had to be rescued from flats which had flooded in Saffron Walden.

Essex County Fire & Rescue Service control centre has received a large number of calls to flooding incidents in the north-west of the county.

At about 5am crews were called to The Spike on Radwinter Road, Saffron Walden to about 20 flats affected by flood waters.

The service’s boat was sent to assist with rescuing the residents.

Ten people – eight adults and two children – and two dogs were rescued.

A burglary at a shop in Market Place, Saffron Walden, took place on May 13 at 4.08am when thieves forced entry to the front door. A duvet cover was used to steal a large quantity of fragrances from the ground floor of the store.

A warning has been put out after a telephone scam where households are telephoned out of the blue to be told there is a virus on their computer.
