The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of rain for Suffolk and north Essex today (August 9), which is set to last until midnight.

There is a slight chance of thunderstorms in the region, but the risk has reduced since yesterday’s forecast.

Motorists should be wary of surface water flooding today, with an average up to 30mm of rain predicted to fall on the region.

The Met Office chief forecaster said they have issued a yellow warning of rain between 12.05am today and 11.55pm.

He said: “An area of heavy rain will sink slowly southwards across the east and southeast of England during Wednesday.

“Some transport routes may be affected by localised flooding leading to longer journey times.

“In addition, flooding of homes and businesses is possible.

“The heaviest of the rain should gradually become confined to the extreme southeast of the UK later in the day.”

Most of the rain fell on Suffolk from around 1pm today, and experts say there is little chance of a break in the clouds for the rest of the day.

The severe showers arrived slightly earlier in North Essex.
