A woman has died following a crash involving a lorry and a car on the southbound carriageway of the M11.

Police have appealed for witnesses following the collision, which happened shortly before 3.30pm today (Thursday), between junctions 6 and 7, near Epping.

A 79-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the car, has died. A man and woman who were also in the car were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The northbound carriageway was closed briefly while an air ambulance attended the scene but the southbound carriageway will be closed for several hours for vehicle recovery and while police carry out an initial investigation.
