The pool at Snares Hill Cottage

A STUNNING garden with surprises around every corner is opening its doors to the public to raise money for charity on Sunday (September 9), from 11am-4pm.

Owners Liz and Peter Stabler have created a quirky 1.5-acre garden at Snares Hill Cottage, Duck End, Stebbing (CM6 3RY).

It has many interesting sculptures, while a wonderful natural swimming pool is bordered by romantic flower beds, a herb garden and a Victorian folly. A bog garden borders mature woodland and leads to a silver birch copse, a beach garden and ‘Roman’ temple.

BBC Gardeners World went to Snares Hill and the garden featured on the programme - and it was described as “a quintessential English Garden”.

Susan Copeland, the NGS Essex county organiser, said: “I am not at all surprised that the BBC featured this superb garden. It was a well deserved accolade for Pete and Liz.”

The garden is being opened as part of the National Gardens Scheme Scheme, which supports a number of charities including Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie Cancer Care and Help the Hospices.
