Saffron Walden Town manager Stuart Wardley

Stuart Wardley drew plenty of positives from Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at promotion-chasing Stanway Rovers but knows more point-less away days will leave them fighting for their lives at the bottom of the Thurlow Nunn Premier League come the end of the season.

This narrow 2-1 win saw Stanway Rovers move up to second in the league table, but they were pushed all the way by an in-form Saffron Walden Town side, who were denied an equaliser in the closing stages by two world-class saves from home keeper, Nick Punter.

Wins can sometimes be like London buses. Wait ages for one and two come along at once and that has certainly been the case for Stuart Wardley’s Saffron Walden Town in the past couple of weeks.
