Saffron Walden brothers George and Jack Peasgood were both in action in the third race of the ITU World Paratriathlon 2014 series at Hyde Park, London, on Saturday.
Racing in PT4, George finished ninth in his category. In ideal weather conditions, the race began with a 750m wetsuit swim in the Serpentine.
The WaldenTRI star had a good swim, exiting the water fourth in his group and 6th fastest time for all categories.
With a speedy transition, he headed out on the five-lap, 20km bike course around Hyde Park. With an excellent bike leg over the fast course, George then had a 5km run, made up of three out-and-back loops.
George finished in a total time of 1hr 9mins 5ecs after an exciting sprint finish against below elbow amputee Van Den Berg, from the Netherlands, who he pipped to the post by one second.
Meanwhile, George’s elder brother, Jack, was acting as a guide in the PT5 category, for visually impaired athletes.
It was his first race guiding blind athlete Haseeb Ahmad. The pair, who are tethered together for the swim and run, and ride a tandem for the bike leg, had a very good race finishing fourth in their category, in a time of 1hr 6mins 21secs.
