Barry Taylor, Tony Kelly and Gemma Thake are all in training for the London Marathon later this month, while Steve Inkley is tackling the Manchester Marathon, also in April.

Taylor was on fine form at the 20 mile race, setting a personal best time of 2hrs 36mins 1sec for 186th out of 818 runners. Kelly, running his first ever 20 mile race, finished in well under three hours, recording 2hrs 53mins 32secs for 387th place.

Thake and Inkley both ran times of close to three hours, with Thake finishing in 3hrs 1min 4secs (478th) and Inkley in 3hrs 3mins 2secs (495th).

Meanwhile, Simon Chambers was the sole Strider to run the Stowmarket Half Marathon, finishing in 1hr 49mins 37secs for 198th place out of 368 runners.

The off-road Colne Valley Trail run saw five Striders taking part. Paul Burgess took part in the 8-mile version, coming an impressive 5th out of 45 finishers in 1hr 7mins 50secs.

Four Striders ran the 15-mile version of the race. Gaving Long was an excellent 5th in 2hrs 8mins 20secs while Steve White was hot on his heels for 6th place in 2hrs 10mins 3secs.

Eleanor Long and Carol White finished the race, in which participants have to navigate the course using a set of written instructions, in joint 22nd place with a time of 2hrs 46mins 39secs. There were 33 runners taking part.

New members are welcome at the Saffron Striders. The club holds a group run every Tuesday, leaving from the Lord Butler Leisure Centre at 8pm. Visit saffronstriders.org.uk
