Saffron Walden County High U14 girls have become the first team from the school to play at the national netball finals.

They began the day with a 10-6 win over Gateways School, with Stephanie Dunlop controlling the game from the centre, before they drew 6-6 with Godolphin and Latymer School having come back from 6-3 down.

After lunch they beat Newcastle Royal Grammar School 11-6 and then had a tough game against Brighton College, winning 10-6.

They went into their final game against Canford needing a win to progress to the semi-finals but were narrowly defeated.

After five wins, one draw and two losses the team finished fourth in their pool, seventh overall and the best state school in the country.

Team: Ashleigh Cowling, Stephanie Dunlop, Grace Taylor, Alex Bill, Megan Redmayne, Hollie Kelvin, Isabel Sheairs, Mya Sanderson, Tia Kaye, Grace Westwood.
