AYTHORPE Roding cruised to a 172-run victory over Stock on Saturday.
It sets up the fixture for this coming Saturday with the local derby at home to High Roding.
It also means Aythorpe can have a big say in who wins the premier league this season, with second-place High Roding, third-place Springfield and league leaders Bentley all in the running.
Aythorpe skipper Paul Gravatt won the toss and decided to bat but lost the first wicket when Steve Chambers went for 0 with 8 runs on the board. Gravatt soon followed scoring 11.
Mark Rosewell hit 20 and Aythorpe found themselves 47-3 after 10 over. But once again Andy Clarke and Graham Milbank came to the rescue with a 85-run partnership in 8 overs. Clarke hit 62, including 11 fours, and Milbank continued to score freely ending on 86, including 15 fours. And he had another good fifth wicket stand of 72 runs in 12 overs with Liam Keaney (27).
Steve Simmonds also hit 36 and Rob Hyams 13 as Aythorpe reached a respectable 292 all out in 40.2 overs.
Joe Grant was in good form with the ball, cleaning out the top three Stock batsmen with McAvoy (10), Raeburn (16) and Johnson (5) all back in the pavilion, and the visitors never really recovered from the bad start. Waring (26) and Clark (29) made the score look a little better but Grant took 3-35 in 6 overs, Ian Bryant 3-19 in 10 overs, Andy Clarke 2-9 in 7 overs – including 4 maidens – and Liam Keaney 1-22 in 2.3 overs as Stock crumbled all out for 120 in 31.3 overs.
The win keeps Aythorpe in fourth spot.
The clash with High Roding on Saturday has a 1.30pm start.
On Sunday Aythorpe Roding entertain Matching Green in a friendly, 2pm start.
