Taylor took six wickets from his 15-over spell which helped Walden dismiss Copdock for 227. The chase then started well but it was Wisbey, in at six, who won the game with an unbeaten 91.

Stand-in captain Thomas Philp won the toss, elected to bowl first and opted to open the attack alongside Andrew Winton.

The skipper struck early, taking his first to two wickets to send Will Parker on his way for one.

He was the only member of Copdock’s top order who gave up his wicket cheaply as Oliver Whiteman (25), James Godfrey (32), Andrew Northcote (69) and Julian Crudeli (48) posted good scores.

Some late hitting saw Copdock post 227 from 57.3 overs.

Walden’s chase got off to a bad start as Jack Sneath was bowled without scoring and Fred Preston followed soon after, also for a duck.

Alex Morley (34) and Simon Parmenter (47), however, were more resiliant and got Walden back on track.

It was the introduction of Wisbey, in place of Ray Mordini (7) that won the game for Saffron Walden.

Coming in at 72-4, he put on an 85 run partnership with Parmenter to take the score to 157-5, the latter being caught.

Then he prodcued an 71-run sixth wicket stand with Philp (20*) to see Walden past Copdock’s total and pick up 25 valuable points in their race for survival.
