Shaun Avis and Craig Calver helped Walden progress to the FA Cup preliminary round with a goal each on Sunday and they were back at it in Suffolk.

Calver scored his second of the season before Avis grabbed a brace in the second half to see Walden to three points.

Sudbury scored in their first attack after seven minutes, when a free-kick fell kindly for Kyran Clements to fire home from close range.

Walden responded but were denied by the linesman’s flag, after Adam Fisher’s shot found the net, and wayward shooting.

The teams turned round with Sudbury leading 1-0 but it didn’t last long as Calver beat his man before blasting the ball past the goalkeeper.

Not to be outdone, Avis scored a goal of his own, heading in Spike Bell’s corner to put Walden in front.

Scott Kemp pegged the Bloods back with an equaliser but it was the visitors who left Suffolk with all the points. James Crane sent in a powerful cross which Avis managed to lob over the goalkeeper.

On Saturday, Walden have a chance to continue their good early season form with a home game against Leiston, who they play for the first time in their history.

TEAM: Floyd croll, Spike bell, Jamie Solkhon, Matt Snelling, Adam Fisher, Chris Reid, Craig Calver, Ross Laird (Jake Noble – 87 mins), James Crane (Graeme Turner – 79 mins), Shaun Avis Greg Strong. Subs not used: Peter Davies, Louis Harper, Anthony Choat.
