The Bloods booked a tie against Welwyn Garden City by beating Ilford 2-1 away from home.

Craig Calver gave Walden the lead in the extra preliminary round match at Cricklefield Stadium only to be pegged back by Fabian Brown’s 44th minute equaliser.

Shaun Avis came up with the decisive goal in the second half to book Walden a home tie in the FA Cup for the first time in nearly a decade.

And now, the club wants the fans to come out in their numbers to cheer the Bloods into the first qualifying round of the competition.

Speaking to the club’s official website after the Ilford game, Johnson said: “I thought we deserved it; the guys were excellent and you could see from the reaction at the end of the game that the players are delighted, thrilled to be in the next round.

“It’s been seven or eight years since we played a home FA Cup tie so I’m sure we’ll have a great crowd.

“On Easter Monday we had 300 people so for this match I can’t see why we can’t get three or 400. I’m sure the town will get behind us.

“It’s a really big game and the players will be up for it so we’ll try to pack out Catons Lane. When the crowd gets behind the team it is tremendous.

“We’ll give it our best shot and try to get through to the next round.”

Manager Stuart Wardley added: “We always get a great crowd at home so whoever we get we’ll look forward to them coming down to The Lane and hopefully getting a win.”
