Manager Stuart Wardley has brought in centre-back Adam Fisher, 29-year-old full-back Greg Strong and goalkeeper Anthony Choat.

Fisher, who can also play as a holding midfielder, has been in the army for last eight years, representing the force at U23 level. Last year he played for Fulbourn Institute FC in the Kershaw Premier.

Strong returns to Walden from Haverhill Rovers after leaving three years ago. His arrival will add quality to the squad for the upcoming season.

Choat is a former Bloods youth player and returns to the club after a spell at division rivals Haverhill Borough.

The majority of the first team squad from last season has been retained but one player who won’t be returning to Catons lane will be 36-year-old centre-back Alex Riches.

Despite hoping to retain the services of the long serving defender, Riches recently informed the management team of his decision to retire from the game after a career at Saffron Walden which spanned over 450 games.

A club spokesman said: “The management team would like to thank Alex, who has been a fine servant for the club, and his attitude and professionalism will be greatly missed.

“He is a natural leader and without doubt one of the best players to represent the Bloods in the club’s history. Widely respected within the changing room and around the club, he will be greatly missed but we wish him an enjoyable retirement with his young family and he knows that he will always be welcomed at Catons lane.”
