As reported exclusively on website last week, Saffron Walden managers Colin Wallington and Nicky Smith were on the lookout for a striker and the Long Melford goal scorer was their top target.

The 24-year-old scored 25 goals in 49 appearances for Melford having in January 2011.

Wallington will be hoping his new signing can replicate that success as his team struggles to find the net – the Bloods flew out of the gate with 14 goals in four games but have struggled of late, scoring seven times in five games.

Speaking to Long Melford’s club wesite, Cann said: “This has been a hard decision for me to make, as I have loved every minute of being at Melford.

“[However,] I feel that I need a new challenge at this moment in time but would like to thank everyone at the club, and associated with the club, for supporting the team and cheering us on through the good times and the bad.

“Melford will always be a club dear to my heart and I will come over and support [the team] whenever I can.”
