Golf: A millennium week for Green and Walden

IT has been a million dollar week for Derek Green.
Brian Ambler presenting The Millennium Cup to Derek GreenNot only did he win two trophies in Saffron Walden Golf Club’s senior section Millennium Cup, he was also elected as the section’s new captain.
The cup is one of the major events of the year for the seniors section. After a three-day stableford competition, the Johnny Johnson Decanter was won by Roger Forster, the Mashie Trophy by Keith Willey and The Peter Hoare Memorial Trophy by Green.
Over 70 players took part with their points being accumulated over the week to declare the overall winner - Green.
At the senior section AGM held towards the end of last week, outgoing captain Brian Ambler also presented a cheque for over £2,500 to Jo Culbert of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices, which had been raised by the senior section over his year in office.
