GRAHAM Goodman was been re-appointed captain of the Saffron Walden Golf Club scratch team - and his first call has been for the team to make a drive for promotion.
Walden are looking to get back to the elite of Cambridgeshire golf following last year’s relegation to CAGU Division 2.
Goodman was part of Walden’s 2007 championship winning side and was captain when they narrowly lost out on winning the league by one point in 2008 and 2009. He also lead the team to the final of the 2008 Goddard Cup.
At the recent launch of the team’s new kit, Goodman said: “It is our main goal this year to return to Divison 1. We have an exceptional range of talent in the team that deserve to be playing at the high level.”
In preparation for the season, the team has a number of friendly matches coming up, against Bury St Edmonds, St Neots and St Ives, as well as competitive scratch competitions.
Walden have an array of talent at their disposal, including CAGU players Cam Brown, Olly Tuck, Tom Duggan, Richard Southall, Rob Booth and Mark Reeve, added to the experience of Goodman, James Goodfellow, Ian Macdonald and past county champion Mike Orris.
Youth is also coming through in new county boys’ vice captain Archie Adams and club junior captain Stuart Hall.
