Stef Mayle scored Walden's only goal on Saturday

WALDEN returned to action after the Christmas break and put in a competitive performance against their more experienced rivals who eventually ran out 4-1 winners.

City took an early lead and the attacking initiative in the NE14 East Women’s League Prem clash, but Walden looked dangerous on the break. A melee in the D should have resulted in an equaliser but City managed to scramble the ball to safety.

Westnedge then squandered a golden opportunity when through on goal, City’s keeper making a diving save.

At the other end Doust was quick off her line to twice deny a visiting attacker before they extended their lead just before half time.

The second half began in similar fashion to the first, with City scoring early.

Undeterred, Walden injected some pace and intensity to their play and enjoyed more possession. Wyatt, looking increasingly more dangerous up front, was drawing City into fouls and they were reduced to 10 players mid way through the half. Walden capitalised on the advantage, Davison’s strong run and cross from the right was met by Mayle for an easy finish.

With Walden pressing forward, looking to reduce the deficit further, City scored a breakaway fourth that resulted in a flattering scoreline for the home side.
