Tom Kemp and Ben Wells both scored two, while David Boyd, Jon Shipman, Andy Smith, Spencer Hill and an own goal capped a comprehensive victory against Ipswich.

Delighted captain Matt Wells is now looking forward to life in the Premier B division next season – it is as high as Walden have been.

He said: “We will be going to make an impression, not just to be happy with where we’ve got to. Now we’ve got that far we need to set out where we can go next.

“It might be a question of chaning our aims – the way we’ve played this year, why can’t we go up to Premier A.

“I certainly wouldn’t say we’ve going to win the league and we will keep our feet on the ground, but I would expect us to be able to hold our own.”

This was the team’s 13th victory on the spin, emphasising the impressive ... during the second half of the season.

“We’ve really stepped up to it in the second half of the season, and we’ve not just beaten teams but we’ve beaten them convinvingly. We’ve shown that we deserve to be there,” said Wells, who added that this Saturday’s game against already-relegated Ely will be used to “try out” a number of new tactics and positions.

“It is the form we want to take into next year. Hopefully we can keep the team together for as long as possible, and see if we can recruit a few as well.”

Walden travel to winless Ely City on Saturday.
