Walden continued their unbeaten start to the season with an impressive display of attacking flare in a thrashing of Pelicans.
The visitors were on the back foot from the start with close range goals from Rhona Webster and player-of-the-match, Kate Robinson, inside eight minutes. Millie Bushnall and Nia Evans dominated midfield, regularly breaking down Pelican possession and feeding an attack-minded front five who were creating chances at will.
Captain Stef Mayle caught the Pelicans defence napping on a free hit, walking the ball into the D and slapping a powerful shot to make it 3-0.
Further chances went begging before Evans converted a short corner, Natalie Chandler pushed in from a tight angle after skilful stick work, and Julia Westnedge’s conversion made it 6-0 at half time.
The second period was played in the same vain, Robinson continuing to give the opposition backs a torrid time but Walden were unable to add to their tally until Katherine Langridge’s delicate deflection off an accurate Evans pass.
Walden completed the rout when Chandler scored her second after a fine team move. The only blot on the copybook came right at the end when Pelicans grabbed a late consolation from a corner.
• Meanwhile, the ladies 3s had a fine 4-03 win over West Herts 3s.
Goals from Josie Smith and Natalie Hurlestone scored as the first half ended 2-2. Hurlestone claimed her second after the break and Victoria Hill scored the winner with a well-taken fourth after West Herts had drawn level.
