Saffron Walden made hard work of their 4-3 win over an in-form St Ives team.

The home side were two goals up early on, Suzanne Holmes deflecting from a short corner before Claire Harrington stroked home from close range.

A defensive error let St Ives back into the game shortly before the break, a forward pouncing on the lose ball and after a super initial save by Doust the rebound fell kindly to the opposition who couldn’t miss.

Stef Mayle restored the two-goal lead from the penalty stroke spot before Walden gifted St Ives another, 3-2.

Player-of-the-match Millie Bushnall continued to break down St Ives attack and feed the forward line.

Deeds Hill broke forward on the left and found Mayle unmarked at the top of the D. Her powerful shot had too much pace and was deflected in by a defender for what turned out to be the winning goal.

Walden will look for an improved performance next week away at Peterborough.
