DAN Bentley is out of the Boccia individual event following his loss to Cristina Goncalves.
The Portugese 34-year-old beat the Dunmow athlete 4-1 to progress to the quarter finals.
London 2012 has not been a complete disappointment for the 28-year-old after Team GB won a bronze medal in the mixed team Boccia.
Just as they did in Beijing in 2008 to win gold, Bentley, David Smith, Nigel Murray and Zoe Robinson beat Portugal to claim a medal on Tuesday.Team GB took a 5-1 lead before a mini fightback from their opponents, but they held on to win 7-5.
The defending champions were comprehensively beaten 18-1 by Thailand in the semi-final but they bounced back to ensure they came away from a home games with a medal.
Bentley tweeted to his 581 followers at 5pm on Tuesday night.
‘I won a bronze medal at London 2012, very happy! Medal cem about 7pm tonight!!! Happy days :)’
The medal ceremony took place in front of a capacity crowd at the ExCel Arena – an experience Bentley tweeted was “amazing”.
‘Just picked up my bronze medal, a lap of the arena, amazing!! So happy! Now off to eat & bed! Start again tomorrow!!!’
