Rugby: Scorpions give skipper Murphy perfect 50th birthday present with win over rivals Shelford

The Scorpions gave skipper Sean Murphy a 50th birthday present with a 44-26 win over rivals Shelford.

They started brightly and quick ball enabled Murphy to unleash the backs. Rob Nolan bulldozed his way through for the first score with a fine solo effort. Ossie Esterhuizen waltzed over for the second try which Rob Booth converted.

Shelford came back into the game with two tries to peg back score to 14-14 but two further tries through Nolan and Peirson put Scorpions back in control.

In the second half the Scorpions dominated and Nolan completed his hat-trick with further tries being added by Booth (2) and Ben Nash. Booth converted one.

Two late tries by Shelford proved scant consolation.
