Saffron Walden Community's under-13 Reds celebrate their win over the league leaders

Saffron Walden Community under-13 Reds were celebrating after recording a fine win over table-topping Whittleford Wanderers.

The Walden youngsters produced some excellent attacking play and claimed the only goal of the game on five minutes through James Johnston.

And their defence held firm in the second half at Carver Barracks to shut out their opponents, who had not lost in eight previous matches this season and had scored 49 goals while only conceding seven.

It was a first clean sheet of the season for Walden and their delighted manager Grant MacDermott said: “This win will give the young players a massive boost for the rest of the season and a belief in their own abilities.”
