Seals’ great start in the first Essex Mini League fixture of 2013

SAFFRON Seals’ new squad 2013 got their swimming debuts off to a great start in the first of five league fixtures.

Following on from a very successful Club Championships, the squad travelled to Witham to take part in the Essex Mini League fixtures.

For a number of swimmers, it was their first venture into competitive swimming - and they made an impression.

The overall result was: Harwich - 171 points; Saffron Seals - 145 points; Maldon Sharks - 130 points; Witham Dolphins - 126 points; Havering - 101 points.

Several personal best times were also achieved:

10 years & under, 50 metres

Backstroke - Harriet Dunham 47.68; Jonny Cheney 48.80

Butterfly (25m) - Scarlett Hughes 21.42

Freestyle - Maddie Withington 42.41; Aiden McErlain 39.51

11 years & under, 50 metres

Backstroke - Katie Whyte 44.05; Harry Kaermar 45.08

Butterfly - Lauren McAuley 42.16

Freestyle - Phoebe Dowson 37.60; Jack Stanton-Stock 36.47

13 years & under, 50 metres

Breaststroke - Mael Bely 45.36

Butterfly - Jacob Hill 47.10

Backstroke - Bryce Drylie 42.70

Open, 50 metres

Breaststroke - Tara Snelling 43.06

Alex Howlett - 41.37

Butterfly - Imogen Holder 40.82

The next Essex Mini League fixture will be held on Saturday May 11 when the squad will travel to Hornchurch. The Essex Swim League (ESL) squad will compete before that, on Saturday March 2 (at Loughton) and on Saturday March 16 (at Basildon), in the final two fixtures in that league.
