Saffron Striders’ ladies team competed on Sunday at the annual Harwich 5K team relay event which was hosted by the Essex County Athletics Association.

The event catered for a large number of teams from different clubs around the county while the race consisted of 3x5k legs along the seafront with the traditional baton handover seen in Olympic events.

Striders Rebecca White and Marianne Naylor both posted sub-20 minute 5k legs with the experienced Fiona Halls registering a season’s best time of 20 minutes 24 seconds to ensure the team scooped the gold medal in the F35+ age category.

The trio of runners also cemented their place as three of the fastest ladies at the club.

White also picked up personal honours as she was the fastest overall in the singles event in the F35 age category.
