PUBLISHED: 18:19 02 July 2014

A new squad of Saffron Seals swimmers travelled to Royston to compete in a development meet.

The fixture is aimed at children who have never competed away from home, or only infrequently. It is also an opportunity to improve on PB times, and 16 children did this – Emily Alltree, William Alltree, Matthew Bloyce (2), Sophie Bloyce, Jonny Cheney, Lily Costen, Nell Costen, Lottie Dyce, Nancy Ford, Ivo Garnham, James Hamilton, Freyja Leslie, Isabelle O’Hara, Lucy Rush, Phoebe Snow and William Speed. The swimmers also achieved three bronze, six silver and two gold sprint awards.

On the same day 11 other swimmers from the Saffron Walden club travelled to Harlow to take part in the Eric Shepherd Open Meet. It was also a success with Seals swimmers achieving seven Meet Memdals – one bronze (Emma Sarginson), two silver (Zach Haynes, Rose Wilkinson) and four fold (Zach Haynes (2), Oliver Rogers, Rose Wilkinson).

Sixteen PB times were also achieved – Zach Haynes (2), Aaron MacDermott (3), Lauren McAuley (2), Oliver Rogers (2), Emma Sarginson (2), Rose Wilkinson (2), Isla Yarrow (3).

Seals’ next open meet is on July 13 at Cambridge.
