Swimming: Saffron Seals success at Essex County Championships

12:48 16 April 2014

Saffron Seals put in some very good performances at Essex County Championships.

The event was held at the Basildon Sporting Village over three weekends (February 15-16, March 15-16 and March 29-30) and Seals swimmers were present at all three.

The overall results were very good for the Saffron Walden club with four swimmers reaching the finals – Rose Wilkinson (50m backstroke), John Boyle (reserve for 100m backstroke), Grace Mellor (100m breaststroke, and placed fourth in 50m breaststroke), and Zach Haynes (50m freestyle).

A tally of 27 personal best times were also amassed – Christian Channer (freestyle), Gaia Clark-Ward (butterfly, freestyle, IM), Phoebe Dowson (freestyle), Zach Haynes (breaststroke, freestyle), Aaron MacDermott (backstroke, freestyle), Lauren McAuley (freestyle), Grace Mellor (backstroke, 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke), Alice Rogers (backstroke), Oliver Rogers (freestyle), Emma Sarginson (freestyle), Jack Stanton-Stock (breaststroke), Claire Stockton (freestyle), Lee Watts (freestyle), Rose Wilkinson (backstroke, butterfly, freestyle, IM), Nathan Wright (backstroke, freestyle), Isla Yarrow (backstroke).

The new season of open meets now begins which will enable swimmers to gain qualifying times for next year’s county championships. The first of these will be the Cambridge Open held at Kelsey Kerridge in July.
