The Grove ladies first team won the Essex Cup.

Four tennis champions from The Grove have made history after retaining the county title – one year after the team won the competition for the first time.

The Saffron Walden club ladies team were victorious in the Essex Ladies Senior Cup which was played at the Cranston Park, against the home club, on Sunday.

The Grove’s first pair of Alice McGee and Beth Will were too strong for both Cranston Park pairs, with McGee outstanding and well supported by Will.

The dynamic duo easily won both games 2-0.

The team’s second pairing of Trisha Esplin and Julia Westnedge also played very well.

Despite losing the first match, they grabbed a vital set to earn the overall victory, before going on to lose the second match 2-0.

The club will now have its name engraved on the trophy for a second time.

The competition, keenly contested by the top clubs in Essex, has been in existence since 1911.
