AN exciting and tense afternoon of sporting competition among six primary schools saw Dame Bradbury’s ‘A’ team win the USSP Saffron Walden Indoor Athletics Competition.
Five other local schools attended, including RA Butler (two teams), Katherine Semar, St Thomas More, Radwinter and Friends’ School. RA Butler ‘A’ team came second and Radwinter third.
The competition was hosted by Dame Bradbury’s School in the school’s Rainey Hall sports hall. The school also entered two teams, including every single Year 6 child, a handful of Year 5 pupils - and one from Year 4!
Pupils were required to compete in various track and field events including relays, the obstacle race, javelin, paarlauf and the over under race. There were some fantastic performances from athletes from all of the schools.
The event was organised by USSP school games organiser Jackie Coleman, who co-ordinates all activities for the Saffron Walden, Dunmow and Newport schools. She was helped by a team of students from Saffron Walden County High.
“It was great to see so many pupils from all of the local schools competing in one area. There was a fantastic atmosphere all afternoon and I would like to thank everyone who attended,” said Dame Bradbury’s head of sport Nick Evans.
Dame B’s A team will now go to Stansted Mountfitchet School on Wednesday (February 6) to compete against the winners of the equivalent competition from the Dunmow and Newport schools.
