Saffron Walden Squash Club won their latest Cambridge league match against Crown Lodge at The Lord Butler Leisure Centre.

Andy Kay, playing at five, and Laurence Ball, at four, both won their matches 3-0.

At number three, Warren Harper had a slow start, but he triumphed 3-1.

Mark Thompson, at two, beat his opposite number 3-0.

The number ones were up last, with Walden leading 4-0 there was no pressure on John Goodfellow, also the captain.

In a fractious match Goodfellow lost 3-0 to a decent player. Though the first two games were tight, the Walden player capitulated and lost the last game badly.

After the game Goodfellow said: “It was a fine win, we are showing more consistency now and feeling much more comfortable playing at this level.

“The only bad result was mine, losing 3-0 against a good player is no disgrace, but the manner of the loss was not good.”
