Celebrate the Jubilee bank holiday (June 4-5) in style with the merry monarchs of the past at English Heritage’s Cavaliers event. Find out about Audley End’s story as a proud royal residence of Charles II, whose restoration to the throne in 1660 resulted in jubilation and celebrations of historic proportions.

Visitors can propel themselves into royal ages of past as the cavalier court of Charles II descends on Audley End to recreate the pageantry of the historic restoration period, for a bank holiday filled with majestic revelry and patriotic pride!

There will be plenty of fun for all the family over the two days. Appreciate noble music, ridiculous puppet capers with Mr Punchinello and watch the local Militia demonstrate their military might. A resplendent procession from our Sovereign will begin and end the proceedings and you are invited to come and join the King at our highlight of the day the Rollicking Restoration Romp: “Claude Duvall the Ladies Delight” and all this takes place in the majestic surroundings of one of England’s leading stately homes.

The half term week will continue in style as English Heritage holds a special Jubilee-themed event - ‘Time Travellers Go…Royal (Wed 6 – Sun 10 June). Here, children can see if they have what it takes to become a courtier in the royal courts that have visited Audley End for hundreds of years! With games and crafts fit for a monarch of the past, children can experience life as a courtier at the historic property.

Lucy Hutchings, events manager for English Heritage in the London and East region said: “This year is full of national pride, and Audley End is marking the Jubilee with a series of exciting events that all of the family can enjoy. Children will have the opportunity to get involved with activities that would have taken place at Audley end in the 1600s, and learn about one of Britain’s merriest monarchs. Come along to Audley End this June half term for a real royal affair!”
