It’s all ‘stars and stripes’ at choir’s charity concert in Thaxted
10:46 24 April 2014
A ladies choir will be given a star-spangled spectacular in Thaxted this weekend.
Coro Stellante, under the musical direction of Michael Kibblewhite, will be returning to the parish church for another charity concert in aid of Marie Curie Care.
It will be the choir’s third charity fund raising concert in the church – past events have raised funds for Cancer UK and Cystic Fibrosis.
The America in Song concert will feature sacred classics, songs from Hollywood and Broadway, contemporary crossover and more. Young singers from Thaxted Primary School and the Flitch Green Academy will bring their angelic voices to complement the voices of Coro Stellante.
Completing the impressive line-up is guest soloist Seattle born Lisa Peretti, who now lives in Thaxted. She is an internationally renowned singer/songwriter and actress.
The accomplished pianist John Byron will be accompanying the singers.
Coro Stellante held their debut concert in February 2011 in Downham Market, Norfolk. It was their conductor Kibblewhite’s vision to bring together accomplished singers to explore the kaleidoscope of beautiful music written and arranged for female singers.
The singers come from all over East Anglia, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Essex and Kent. The name Stellante – meaning ‘starry, star-like, studded with stars’ – is a name the choir strives to live up to under his musical direction.
Coro Stellante is very keen to engage all members of an audience and consequently its repetoire is wide and diverse to cater for all tastes. The choir sings from an ever-expanding catalogue of sacred, secular, classical, contemporary, gospel and folk music.
The choir will be representing Great Britain in an International Choir Festival to be held in Barcelona in early May singing alongside choirs from Russia, Georgia, Poland, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Ireland.
• America in Song is on Saturday (April 26), 7pm. Tickets are £10 (children free), available from Gifted on Town Street, or phone 01371 830104, firstname.lastname@example.org or on the night at the door.
