Sir Andras Schiff to play Bach, Bartok, Janacek and Schumann at Saffron Hall

Pianist, Sir Andras Schiff will be in recital at Saffron Hall on Thursday, May 4, playing Bach (Capriccio in B-flat Major and Four Duets), Bartok (Piano Sonata, Janacek (In the Mists) and Schumann (Fantasie in C Major).
The artist, who has received numerous major awards and honors, including the Grammy Award, Gramophone Award, Mozart Medal, and Royal Academy of Music Bach Prize, was knighted in the 2014 Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to music. Schiff was born in Budapest into a Jewish family, the only child of two Holocaust survivors.He began piano lessons aged five, studying at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest.
He then studied in London with George Malcolm. Schiff made a recording with Malcolm of four-hand music by Mozart using a fortepiano that once belonged to the composer. He emigrated from Hungary to Britain in 1979.
